I'm using this textbook in my Intro to Medical Insurance class. I like the way the chapters are laid out and the reviews between sections of chapters. The material is probably as clear as it can be, this being insurance after all. I have two complaints.
First, the Encoder Pro software included with the book. It contains HCPCS, ICD 9 Vol I and II, and CPT codes. The way the software is designed makes it difficult to use. It's hard to describe, but I think they could have made it more user friendly. Also the tabular lists of codes are not formatted the way they are described in the textbook, which adds confusion to an already confusing process. And there is no list of HCPCS modifiers, at all. Overall, I've used online manuals more than I've used this software (except for CPT codes, which have to be bought). I was just disappointed that this textbook didn't have all the tools I needed to complete my assignments like it implied.
And second, some of the suggested Internet links at the end of chapters are dead. Granted, that's not really their fault. But it frustrated me so I have to complain about it.

I've been working with this book for years (not KINDLE)...in addition to very appropriate coverage of dozens of topics, the book has 40 case studies towards the end. Many of those case studies I have expanded so that the students can get an even better idea of what to expect on the job...the most recent edition has ICD-10 codes along side of ICD-9...it has enough examples and test banks to keep the students busy...the workbook is also good, but does not compare to the textbook. All in all, it's a great book.
