Countries in sub-Saharan Africa were once dismissed by Western experts as being too poor and chaotic to benefit from the antiretroviral drugs that transformed the AIDS epidemic in the United States and Europe. This book offers a very important critique of global health science in a fair and easy-to-understand way, for non-clinicians and non-social scientists alike. This book is excellently written--very little jargon, social theories and basic biology of HIV/AIDS well-explained--and is a relatively quick and satisfying read.
