Essentials of Plastic Surgery is a great resource for students of plastic surgery and residents in training. It’s pocket-sized so it’s small enough to fit in your lab coat pocket but comprehensive enough to cover the essential topics in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. It’s great as a quick reference when studying for the boards or just to use as a quick refresher when dealing with a clinical problem.
It does what it’s supposed to do as a quick refresher of multiple different topics or merely to use as a launching point for anything you want to study in more depth. For more in-depth coverage of individual topics, you would consult the usual sources… Mathes, Jackson, Baker, Greene, Spear, Ellis, Chung, Bostwick and Nahai.
Of course, you will want to keep this on your bookshelf as a handy reference when you set up your private practice after residency.
