This was required for the initial phase of the "business" section of my LMT program.
Thank God my husband already owns a business and has learned the legalities, taxing structure, start-up, permit obtaining, and whatnot so he can help me with them as I finish in 2 weeks. Because this book will be of absolutely no value there.
Written in "flowery" (and that's being generous) language, this book encourages you to dream up your best possible business, explore who you are, and then...nothing. There's a huge disconnect between the hippie-dippie "love yourself first", you-can-do-anything-but-fly attitude in the beginning of the book and the lack of practical applications in the end. There are some practical steps in how to organize time that I learned from this book, but overall-probably not worth it beyond a cursory read through. The advice on taxes? Do research and file them. Really? Nah...I thought I'd skip that part! The advice on business structure? Horribly outdated. If you want a pep talk, this is a good book for that. If you want real-life, practical advice, best look elsewhere.
Maybe 10 years ago, before a lot of states jumped on licensure, precision, and standards for their massage therapists, this book would have been helpful. In the current world of LMTs, with strict license guidelines, local and state laws, local health codes, continuing education regulations, and constant scrutiny by many state lobbying organizations that want to see massage therapy completely eliminated or sent back to the physical therapy realm only--this book isn't going to help you build, maintain, or expand your practice.
What really bothered me was the easy reading.
