Nolte is the gold standard and this is a continuing improvement in series of texts. Online access is handy for quick reference, or when I do not have the actual text handy.

I hated neuroanatomy in med school, but this helped me get through it. This textbook provided enough background information to lay a good foundation, but wasn't so dense that I couldn't get through a chapter in a sitting. In fact, the author even throws some comedy into an otherwise boring topic (see definition of arachnoid villi in back of book). Highly recommend.
