I've never written a book review before, but I am so astounded by how poorly this book is written that I couldn't resist. If in some way I can steer someone away from this book, then I have done my good deed for the day.
I have ready many nursing textbooks and most all of them are poorly worded and excessively verbose, sacrificing quality for quantity, while seeming as if the authors are more interested in impressing the reader with phraseology than they are in imparting knowledge. But this book takes the cake.
To echo many of the other reviewers, this book is terribly written, to the point that some paragraphs and sentences are incomprehensible. Adding insult to injury, the organization (or lack there of) of this book is some of the worst I have seen, from the chapter level all the way down to the paragraph level. It is page, after page, after page of rambling drudgery. As others have said, in some cases it is almost as if related sentences were tossed into a hat, drawn out at random, then printed on the page. Another stated that reading this book was like reading stream of consciousness - that too is an accurate description. Furthermore, the book is full of pointless facts, tables and chapters full of senseless over-detail, and cartoon-like diagrams. It is not uncommon in this book to read an entire section on a disease or process, only to realize when you are done that you know nothing more about the disease/process than you did before. Why? Because the section is bloated with needless, loosely-related information combined with a lack of explanation of the essential processes and mechanisms of the disease, while simultaneously using vague, meaningless phrasing. Pathophysiology demands precise, clear language, but that is no where to be found in this book.
