This book is the first of its kind intended to teach the workers of the information age coming to healthcare. Richard Gartee has decades of experience in the field as a teacher. In addition, he has the unique insight of having been part of the development of the industry itself. Few people could write this book in the way he has done. The examples demonstrate to the novice the importance of the information. The content explains why and how healthcare information technology centered on the electronic health record will work to improve access, reduce cost and increase patient safety.

To be honest, I did not actually read the text, I breezed over it and focused on the exercises for homework. However, I was extremely impressed with the exercise instructions. As certain basic tasks needed to use the software are learned the book doesn't waste time restating how to do the task step by step, instead it will refer you to the last page where the task's steps were explained. The book does not assume the reader has ANY knowledge of computer program usage and is able to provide simple, easy to follow instructions and explainations for students who need guidence. Honestly, if you read the instructions and look at the pictures provided to ensure you're on the right track, you will have no problems with the software.
There were a few bugs with the patient list loading but there's a nice troubleshooting section in the text for those. Aside from those few bugs this is seriously probably the best textbook I've read in the last 5 or so years (I'm on my 9th consecutive year in college so I've seen a lot of books lol)
